Technological Convergence

iPods carry an array of functions such as internet via wifi, camera/video, applications, photos, videos, iTunes store, gaming, weather, maps, social networking, and of course music playing. The iPod has adapted many different uses to suit every individual person, utilities such as calendars, calculators, voice memo’s, contacts all help to organise a modern lifestyle. The iPod has changed over the years; starting with a basic music storage system the iPod Classic, it has moved onto the iPod Touch where there is a video camera, internet, and face time which is essentially video calling. The iPod destroys the need for a camera, organiser, games consol, even a computer.

To listen to music in an iPod there are a number of choices; the music which is already stored from syncing with a computer, buying new music via the iPod at the iTunes Store, listening to music on YouTube, music streaming websites or watching music videos on your iPod via your own or YouTube.
To download music to the iPod there is the iTunes Store which can be accessed through the iPod or on the computer, which allows single tracks or whole albums to be downloaded, tracks are typically £0.79 or £0.99 depending popularity, albums are £7.99 for a new release standard edition.

Out of all the storage devices I have seen I would say the best one would be the iPhone as it incorporates every device you would need and has specially made applications for sites such as YouTube and Facebook. It has a video capture camera, comes in a range of different memory sizes, and has organiser tools such as notes, calendars, calculators, contacts, and voice memo’s.
